Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question and don't see the answer below, please contact us.

How does MFR feel?

MFR can feel like pressure or a slow stretch in the immediate area under the therapist's hands. It's also common to feel sensations in seemingly unrelated areas of the body, maybe the site of an old injury or scar. These fascial connections may or may not make sense to you at the time, but instead of figuring out the sensations, simply feel them. All you need to do is tune in and allow yourself to feel whatever is there.

Is MFR similar to deep tissue massage?

No, it's significantly different from deep tissue massage.

Myofascial Release uses no force but rather long, sustained holds. The therapist's hands sink into the tissue, just to the point of resistance. The therapist then holds at that barrier until the fascia is ready to soften and release.

Deep tissue, as well as most other forms of bodywork, force through this fascial barrier, and as a result, cause the fascia to brace to protect itself.

What should I wear for an MFR session?

For MFR to be most effective, your therapist needs to treat directly on the skin. Please bring comfortable, loose-fitting shorts and, for women, a sports bra or bathing suit top. You’ll be resting on a warm infrared BioMat.

Additionally, please avoid putting ANYTHING on your skin, such as lotion or oil, on the day of your appointment. Even a small amount can make it challenging to engage the fascia without sliding on the skin.

What should I wear for a Harmonic Therapy session?

For Harmonic Therapy sessions, wear comfortable, natural-fiber clothing. You’ll be resting on a warm infrared BioMat. Most importantly, please bring an eye covering or scarf to wear.

A light blocking eye mask is crucial for the experience — no peeking, please!  Not only will visual stimuli interrupt and limit your meditation, but you’ll actually be disappointed because everything is happening on the back side of the gong, out of view.

What can I do for self-care in between sessions?

Following your first session at Connective Healing MFR, you will receive an MFR ball for self-care at home. The ball is air-filled, so it's safe to use anywhere you feel tension or pain. Place the ball under you and tune into the sensations throughout your entire body. Soften your whole body, not just the area you are directly treating. The most important guideline is to remain still on the ball for a minimum of five minutes without moving

If you'd like further help with self-care or to learn additional techniques, book a Self-Care Private Instruction session.

Why have experts missed the role of fascia in pain and disease?

Typically, the medical study of fascia has mostly utilized cadavers. The problem is that, because cadaver tissue is dead, the gel-like ground substance is dehydrated, so they're missing the fluid nature of healthy fascia. Furthermore, myofascial restrictions don't show up on most of the standard medical tests. These insights offer a partial explanation for why the medical field hasn't recognized fascia's essential functions; they haven't viewed fascia in action.

As a result of missing fascia's significance in pain and disease, our medical system has come to look at the body in separate parts, rather than as an interconnected system.

In contrast, MFR recognizes that the knee bone is not only connected to the thigh bone, but every other tissue as well . . . and that fascia impacts absolutely everything.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

There is no charge to cancel or reschedule your appointment up until 48-hours before the start time — just click the button at the bottom of your confirmation email. If you need to cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, please call or email us as soon as possible. While I certainly recognize that things come up, I hope you understand why I charge a fee in these situations.

With less than 48-hours’ notice, the late fee is equal to half of the session rate. For no-shows and cancelations made after the start of the appointment, the fee is equal to the full session rate. The fee will be charged to the credit card on your account, so please specify if you would like to use a different method at the time you contact to cancel.

Do you take insurance?

I cannot bill your health insurance directly for our services. In some cases, the company might reimburse you after the fact, though there is no guarantee. I cannot advise you on this as each company's rules and each person's case is different. Still, I’m happy to fill out any paperwork that they require in order to help your case.

While it would be wonderful to have access to my services without the out-of-pocket cost, keeping the insurance company out of my practice actually allows me to provide more complete care. Without the limitations placed by the insurance company, I can better help you & your system to heal, likely beyond your expectations.

The easiest way to schedule appointments or purchase gift certificates is through the online scheduler (click the button at the top of the page or download the app with the directions below). If you don't see an option you're looking for, or need any help, please email
