Sarah is an Intermediate Level JFB-MFR Therapist, with 13 years of experience as a Licensed Massage Therapist.  She initially decided to pursue massage training to learn better ways to manage her own chronic pain.  Due to years of working long hours at her desk job at the State House, a karate injury, and a bad fall on her tailbone, Sarah was in quite a bit of discomfort.

For nearly a decade, Sarah also worked in a primary care practice as a Medical Assistant, where she met countless individuals seeking help with pain.  She saw patients’ frustration grow as their pain lingered or worsened. Despite invasive testing, aggressive physical therapy, and cycling through medications, they experienced only minimal relief, let alone progress in actual healing.

It was already quite a few years into her massage career when Sarah first experienced JFB-MFR for herself. Based on the relief she got from just a few sessions, it was clear to her that MFR was how she would help herself and her clients, not only to manage their symptoms, but to actually heal.  She began taking seminars and has now completed hundreds of hours of MFR training, almost all of it directly with John F. Barnes, PT.

The best training she’s received, however, comes from her seven-year-old son, who was diagnosed with autism four years ago.  Sarah regularly uses MFR with him (which he calls “squishes”) and considers it an essential component of his care and incredibly supportive of his development.

Sarah believes that the client is key in the process of healing and emphasizes the importance of making  MFR self-care  part of a daily routine to support, maintain, and enhance physical and mental health.

Marya is an Expert Level JFB-MFR Therapist, with over 12 years of experience as a Licensed Massage Therapist. Prior to this, she planned for a career as a chef, but having lived with fibromyalgia since childhood, life just felt too overwhelming. She had to stop cooking in restaurants after only a few years. Western Medicine’s approach to addressing pain and depression hadn’t helped her, so she began to learn alternative methods and help herself instead. This sparked her desire to help others.

After completing her Massage Therapy training, Marya started her bodywork practice. Through her work with clients and on herself, she became more and more aware of the difference between healing pain as opposed to simply relieving it. She began exploring ways to use the pain she experienced as a means of accessing the deep emotions and beliefs that were more at the core of the problem.

Exploring this concept led her, as a client, to John Barnes’ MFR. After a short time of receiving MFR treatment, Marya saw improvement in her health and a profound shift in her thinking. She began training with John F. Barnes, PT and JFB-MFR became the only bodywork technique she practices.

Marya is also pursuing a 200+ hour certification in Sound Therapy with Mitch Nur, Ph.D., of 9 Ways Academia.  She’s fascinated with studying the art and science of using sound and vibration for human healing.  Marya has found her work with gongs and singing bowls to be a powerful complement to Myofascial Release and particularly enjoys working alongside Sarah and combining the two therapies in one session.
