Sarah is an Intermediate Level JFB-MFR Therapist, with 14 years of experience as a Licensed Massage Therapist.  She initially decided to pursue massage training to learn better ways to manage her own chronic pain.  Due to years of working long hours at her desk job at the State House, a karate injury, and a bad fall on her tailbone, Sarah was in quite a bit of discomfort.

For nearly a decade, Sarah also worked in a primary care practice as a Medical Assistant, where she met countless individuals seeking help with pain.  She saw patients’ frustration grow as their pain lingered or worsened. Despite going through invasive testing, aggressive physical therapy, and various medications, often they only got temporary or partial relief.

It was already quite a few years into her massage career when Sarah first experienced JFB-MFR for herself. Based on the relief she got from just a few sessions, it was clear to her that MFR was how she would help herself and her clients, not only to manage their symptoms, but to actually heal. She began taking seminars and has now completed hundreds of hours of MFR training, almost all of it directly with John F. Barnes, PT.

The best training she’s received, however, comes from her eight-year-old son, Ethan, who was diagnosed with autism five years ago.  Sarah regularly uses MFR with him (which he calls “squishes”) and considers it an essential component of his care and incredibly supportive of his development.

Sarah believes that the client is key in the process of healing and emphasizes the importance of making  MFR self-care  part of a daily routine to support, maintain, and enhance physical and mental health.

Marya is an Expert Level JFB-MFR Therapist, with over 13 years of experience as a Licensed Massage Therapist. She came to this work because of her own pain, having lived with fibromyalgia since early childhood. Western Medicine’s methods for treating pain and depression could barely even mask the problems, let alone resolve them. After many years of struggling, she began to learn alternative approaches to help herself instead. This sparked her desire to help others.

Rather than trying to simply relieve the pain for herself and her clients, Marya looked for ways to support the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Exploring this concept led her, first as a client, to John Barnes’ MFR. With regular MFR treatment and self-treatment at home, Marya began to see an improvement in her health and a profound shift in her thinking. Upon completing just one seminar, JFB-MFR became the only method of bodywork she’d practice.

Marya now lives without the life-limiting pain, hypersensitivity, and depression associated with fibromyalgia — she uses MFR on everything. Having completed all of John’s courses, she repeats them regularly in order to deepen both her work with clients, as well as her own healing.

Marya is also pursuing a 200+ hour certification in Sound Therapy with Mitch Nur, Ph.D., of 9 Ways Academia. She’s found her work with gongs and singing bowls to be a powerful complement to Myofascial Release and particularly enjoys combining the two therapies in one session.
